COME RIDE YOUR BIKE
Upcoming events
Tarantula Cycles runs regular group rides in Trinidad, CO for all abilities. We are also ardent supporters and members of the Trinidad Trails Alliance and other local organizations working to build and maintain trails.
And we can’t forget the numerous and varied cycling events happening in town and the greater region, too!
Check out the calendar or the full event listings below. Come help us build new trail, join the regulars on a shop ride, or sign up for a big race and spend a weekend riding Las Animas and beyond!
Weekly Social Ride
Meet up Thursday evenings at the shop around 5pm for our relaxed group ride. This typically involves some gravel roads so we do recommend a gravel bike, MTB, or hybrid, unless you are comfortable riding a road bike on gravel and dirt.
Expect 10-15 miles of riding. This is a no-drop ride and all skill levels are welcome.
2nd Saturday Trail Work
Join Trinidad Trails Alliance every second Saturday of the month to help build and maintain trails around Trinidad. We often work at the Wormhole trail system but often help out at the state parks and along the riverwalk.
For more information on each month’s meetup, follow Trinidad Trails group on Facebook or the Trinidad Trails Alliance social media pages.

Rad Fest Short Course Preview Ride
We have lots of locals riding the Rad Dirt Fest this year and most of us are tackling the short course. Join Tarantula Cycles this Sunday for a full preview ride so you're ready to rock on race day!
Post ride beers back at the shop, for those of age.
The course can be found here. It is approx. 46 miles and 3,500 feet of elevation. https://www.strava.com/routes/3136759456540706010
While we will do our best to accommodate various levels of fitness and skill, we do have to get back to open the shop, so this will be a drop ride with an average pace of 10+ mph.
Depending on who comes out we will have an A group chasing a faster pace as well.
If you fall behind, we will pick you up on our way back, or you should be prepared to finish the route on your own or call a bailout ride.
Helmets REQUIRED. Ride at your own risk. Bring snacks, water, layers, a spare tube, a multitool, and anything else you would typically take on a long ride.
Billy's Night Bazaar
We’ll be open a little late for this fun event featuring local vendors and others from all across Colorado and beyond! Crafts, art, fashion, and much more, all on our pet-friendly patio with beers and food available from Sexy Pizza.

Borderlands Epic
We are doing a thing. A Labor Day "adventure ride." It will be a big day featuring some of the best riding in Southern CO and Northern NM. Our very good friends @omfcyclingclub will be there. Will you?
• 96 miles
• 7,900 feet
• 2 states
• 2 mountain passes
• 1 resupply
• 100 beers (?)
• Several pizzas
• Unlimited friendship
This is a drop ride, meaning we need to keep a minimum pace in order to safely complete it. Expect mixed terrain (pavement, gravel, doubletrack) in various states of gnarliness.
Bring *at least* three bottles of hydration, a helmet, lights, layers, and snacks. We will resupply water, Gatorade, snacks, and your own small drop bags (if you have them) before climbing up Sugarite SP in NM.
Pizza and beers provided after we make it back to the 'Dad. Let's ride!
Chill Gravel ride
Join us for a relaxed pace, no-drop ride out on the plains east of Trinidad. This ride will be close to a 50-50 split pavement and gravel. There are some loose sections and also some washboard but overall this should be rideable on most bicycles.
This is not a super long ride but be prepared with at least two water bottles and any roadside repair necessities. Helmets required.
We’ll depart from the shop around 8AM and circle Perry Stokes Airport before heading north through Hoehne and back towards El Moro. This route is 35 miles and about 1,500 ft of elevation change, so it is not too steep. We’ll be back in time for cold brews at Grandma’s House, if that’s your recovery beverage of choice.
Trail Work Day with Trinidad Trails Alliance
Join TTA and help expand and maintain our local Wormhole Trails! Meet at the Wormhole Trailhead at 9AM. We’ll have tools but you are also welcome to bring your favorite. Don’t forget water and sunscreen! After a couple hours we’ll return to the lot and hang out for a bit.

August Full Moon Ride
The final supermoon of the summer is here -- the Sturgeon Moon! For this last full moon ride, we'll depart from the shop after trivia concludes at Grandma's House next door (usually around 9PM).
We'll ride up to Simpson's Rest to enjoy our moonbath and then descend back to town. Should be just about 5 miles and 450 feet, unless you want to monkey around on Crossbed trail a little bit!

TARANTULA CYCLES GRAND OPENING PATIO PARTY
Come celebrate with us as we officially open for business! Raffle prizes, discounts on beer and pizza at our neighboring businesses, and an outdoor rock concert to close out the night.
We’ll host an open house and there will be deals on slices of pizza from Sexy Pizza, $1 off drafts from Grandma’s House, and a whole slew of local vendors out on the patio from 2PM until 5PM.
At 5:00, we’ll take a break to cruise around on some gravel, likely around 5-10 miles with a little bit of climbing. With our new thirst, we’ll return to the depot for a concert from Trinidad’s own Robbie & the Reckless on the patio.
